Environmental Management

Development of Environmental Management systems:

Nature is the creator of everything, but natural resources are not infinite. Sustainability of mankind cannot be ensured without protection of natural resources. Challenges posed due to climate change, water stress, biodiversity destruction, resource depletion and waste management are beginning to create devastating impacts in our existence. Any product/service/activity can create serious negative impacts to the environment. Successful organisation identifies these environmental impacts and execute measures to reduce or eliminate such impacts. At Chakra4, we can develop environmental management system in line with international standard namely ISO 14001 to tackle environmental challenges.

Development of carbon footprinting and working towards carbon neutrality:

It is a well known fact that the climate change is one of the crucial sustainability challenges that your organisation encounter in the present day world. Understanding your carbon foot print is the first step to take action to reduce footprint. GHG management through reduction, adoption of alternative energy sources and sequestration of carbon emission are a few measures. We can develop systematic approach in computation of carbon footprint based on international protocol and craft climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Development of water stewardship strategies and working towards water neutral footprint:

It is rather well known that availability of water will be the most critical sustainability challenges that organisations will be encountering in the near as well as long term future. 54% of India faces high to extreme high-water stress. This definitely impacts all sectors whether it is domestic, industrial and agriculture. In this context, organisations need to develop water stewardship strategies starting from improving the water efficiencies, creating water harvesting structures to replenish water sources. In this context, first step is to understand the water footprint at the organisational level as well as entire product level including the value chain. This can help in identifying hot spots and improve further towards water neutrality and eventually to create positive footprints for future ready organisations.

Strategies for waste to resources:

Waste is nothing but a misplaced resource. Waste indicates inefficiencies in utilisation of resources. A well thought out waste management strategy can definitely improve the bottomline. Product stewardship and extended producer responsibility requirements push organisations to work in the direction. One of the most critical phases of waste management lies with the management of massive amount of plastic packaging waste and electronic waste in an environmentally sustainable way.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) & Environment Product Declaration (EPD) of products/services – Verification:

LCA based on ISO 14040/ 14044 standard identifies environmental impact at each stage of product development starting from raw material acquisition till its final disposal. LCA studies help in identification of hot spots in energy, water and resource utilisation and help in initiating necessary steps to improve sustainability performance in the entire value chain of a product. EPD presents transparent, verified and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products. EPD verifications are provided on The International EPD® System – a global programme for environmental declarations based on ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
